A Home on Midgard

In ancient lore, the gods' habitations are described in Gylfaginning and Grímnismál. Breiðablik, (pronounced Braedth-a-blick) "wide-gleam" or "wide view," belonged to Odin's son Baldr, best-loved and most beautiful of the gods.  His death, and subsequent exile to  the realm of the Dead, is one of the most wrenching events in their history.  His absence left an irrevocable void.  His passage to Helheim served to insure His father's greater plan, that the best of the gods continue on, should Ragnarok come to pass.  We have taken the name of His stead not out of a desire to presume or offend--it is done purely out of love, and with the hope that we can reflect some measure of good and beauty in this world.

We receive aid and support from individuals as they feel moved to offer.  We are not a 501(c)(3)  non-profit organization and have no plans to become one, due to budgetary and pragmatic issues.  Breidablik began as a personal mission and continues as such; its existence is inextricably linked to a steady paycheck and source of funds.  That said, it has NEVER been a for-profit endeavor and has operated at a great cost for over three years.  The merit of making sacrifices lies in the commitment to the gods.

Breiðablik Temple is located on odal (ancestral) land in western New England.  We're not affiliated with any existing organization
Heathen, Forn Sed, Theodish, Asatru, Northern Tradition, or pagan.  Partisanship is counter to our mission.  We act from sincere convictions and devotion to the gods.  We're not interested in heated debate and will ignore provocateurs.

A herd of sacred horses and a single swine reside here, as at the ancient holy places such as Uppsala and Thrandheim.  They are not sacrificial animals but permanent residents whose care is carried out in the gods' names.  There are also extensive organic gardens, fields, and a sacred grove or Lund, dedicated to Odin.  Those wishing to visit, honor the gods, or seek solitude for reflection please inquire at the address below.  Overnight camping available, at-will donations the only cost.
